Q: What is a AOM?
A: AOM is Agricultural Operations Management. Agricultural Operations Management is the application of technology and principles of management toward improving agricultural production, processing, manufacturing, technical sales, and food safety. It is a B.S. degree taught by the Department of Agricultural and Biological Engineering at the University of Florida.
Q: What kind of classes do AOM majors take?
A: The curriculum for the Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Operations Management consists of 4 options to choose from:
- Production Systems Management prepares the graduate for managerial positions in agricultural enterprises such as vegetable, citrus, nursery, or livestock production.
- Construction & Process Management focuses on management skills and decision-making to increase production efficiency while also reducing environmental impact. Students will learn how to maximize the efficiency of a variety of buildings and systems while minimizing the use ofour natural resources.
- Technical Sales Management focuses on the marketing of agricultural commodities such as agricultural produce, farm commodities, or chemicals. This includes sales management, product planning, technical support, and parts and inventory control.
- Environmental Systems Management prepares the graduate for a career in environmental management for industry, regulatory agencies, or consulting firms. This includes water and environmental quality, organic waste management, pesticide application and biological controls.
